I was recently inspired to subscribe (read: impulse purchase) to Birchbox 1. to see what it’s all about 2. to get fun samples and 3. why not, getting packages in the mail is fun! I bought a year subscription, so I hope I like it. I got my first delivery this week and it was fun to open and look at everything.

I got a SoyJoy, which I haven’t eaten yet, some new mascara, which was perfect because I needed some. So far so good, but it’s hard to sway me from my tried and true Maybelline Great Lash. I also got some dry shampoo that I haven’t tried yet, but I certainly will, some rose gold nail polish, and a perfume sample.

For the most part, it is things that are relevant to me, which I am happy about since I went on the site and answered all the questions to help personalize my box. We’ll see how they are for the rest of the year. Keep em coming!

For the last three years, I have made Thanksgiving dinner and this year, for the first time, I spent it at my in-laws house. It felt weird not contributing, so I asked what I could bring/help with. It was decided that I would bring a pumpkin pie, but then I got the itch to make this delicious cranberry cake that my aunt makes, so I made that too.

Really, this is just a cake pan full of butter and sugar. I was shocked when I made it (this was the first time). Because of that, it is, of course, super yummy! And I think the secret ingredient is almond extract. It just adds a little something that you don’t get from vanilla. So, here’s the cake, the homemade cream cheese frosting, and the cake all put together and cut.

Here’s the finished pumpkin pie. I attempted to make a pumpkin for the middle of the cake with a little of the left over crust. Looks more like an apple, huh? Tasted good though!

On Friday, I actually ended up making our own little personal Thanksgiving meal so we could have the leftovers at home to eat throughout the weekend. My MIL sent us home with some turkey and sweet potatoes on Thursday, but Thursday night before we went to bed, the hubs had already devoured the turkey. It worked out well and we had leftovers to eat all weekend. Now the countdown is on until Christmas!

So many missed outfit posts…and missed outfit pics. I went out of town, then my photographer (the hubs) went out of town and we weren’t together for almost 2 weeks. I do have pics of some of what I wore though, so I’m going to post them all in an attempt to get caught up. We’re done being apart for a while, so should be business as usual again.

I just realized when looking through these pictures that either I’ve been lazy with my outfits (very possible) or at the slightest hint of cold my default is jeans. Yeah, they’re easy, but I have so many skirts and dresses. Look for a skirt/dress heavy post next week to compensate.

My sister in law recently asked me if I would make hats for my nieces to wear this winter and I happily obliged. She sent me a few pictures of hats on Etsy that she liked and one was just so cute that I had to try to replicate it. I didn’t have anything to go off of except the pictures being used to sell the hat and I couldn’t find a pattern that was like it, so I decided I would have to make the pattern up as I went.

First I created a rectangle of cabled fabric that I then folded in half and seemed together to make the hat. I then picked up stitches around the edge to add the ribbing along the bottom. Finally, I added the I-cords and viola. You have an infant hat!

It seemed sooo small and I’m still a little anxious about fit, but happy with how the pattern turned out. I hope it fits her ok and lasts through the winter! Luckily the way it is cabled/ribbed allows it to be sort of stretchy.

And there you have it! Julia’s winter hat! I’m still working on the second one, but pics will come as soon as I have finished it.
